In addition to supporting Waters’ innovative LC portfolio on Waters Empower Software Suite, we also partner with a variety of instrument vendors to provide you with the versatility you need for your business. Empower Chromatography Data System (CDS) controls over 700 instruments today, enabling data harmonization across your business. To facilitate instrument control within your laboratory, Waters partners, collaboratively, with a variety of chromatographic instrument vendors to provide a robust approach for multi-vendor instrument control in the Empower Software Suite, to provide you with a wide array of choices to enable business flexibility and productivity.

Partner instrument drivers for Empower are developed utilizing a Waters-created standard approach called Open Interface Portal (OIP). Waters provides our instrument partners with the knowledge and information required to develop drivers for Empower, including guidance and support for the OIP approach. Software Partners
Our partners will be responsible for defining the driver’s functionality, developing the driver, maintaining, and supporting the driver while the instrument is connected to Empower Software. The partner will also be responsible for providing their specific Instrument Connection License (ICL) with every new third-party instrument installation.
Waters supports the Instrument Partners by supporting the partner’s driver development and working together on testing the drivers on Empower Software so that Waters can offer our customers a superior experience in controlling third-party instruments within the Empower Software Suite.

Third-party instrument drivers matrix
We realize that it is not always straightforward to determine if a question or concern is related to the instrument driver or Empower. Waters is always happy to accept your support call where more diagnosis is needed. In situations where it is not clear, Waters will work collaboratively with partners to troubleshoot, diagnose, and bring the issue to resolution.
*Empower instrument drivers for Agilent chromatographic systems use a separate approach called Instrument Control Framework (ICF). With this approach, Waters develops an Instrument Control Framework Support Layer (ICF SL) that acts as a connector between Empower and the Agilent product, while Agilent develops both the instrument drivers and the supporting architecture. Agilent supports their instrument hardware.
