ionKey/MS
Enhanced MS with the turn of a key
Enhancing sensitivity for your quantitative and qualitative chromatographic data is priority. The ionKey/MS System redefines ultimate performance by integrating microflow ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) directly into the mass spectrometer’s source, providing an unparalleled increase in sensitivity, chromatographic performance, and ease of use.
The 150 µm inner diameter (I.D.) iKey Separation Device achieves up to a 40x increase in sensitivity compared to 2.1 mm UPLC columns and the 300 µm I.D. iKey HT Separation Device enables higher sample throughput with short cycle times. The ionKey/MS System provides a simplified microflow LC-MS user experience, supports UPLC separations with sub-2 µm particle technology, and delivers robust, reproducible, and reliable microflow LC-MS analyses.

Features Header
Ideal format for sensitivity, throughput, and robustness
The iKey Separation Device is the ideal format for sensitivity, throughput, and robustness for microflow LC-MS analyses, offering the highest reproducibility for microflow LC separations due to the eliminated operator variability. The ionKey/MS is designed to achieve excellent quantitative and qualitative data by integrating a supported Waters UPLC System, ionKey Source, iKey Separation Device, and a supported Waters mass spectrometer – addressing the need for both high sensitivity and routine applications on one platform.
Designed for the most demanding quantitative applications, Waters mass spectrometers provide unprecedented levels of sensitivity and the ultimate in quantitative performance. This technology is available for:
Highest sensitivity with the 150 µm I.D. iKey
The 150 µm I.D. iKey Separation Device provides significant increases in signal to noise ratio (S:N) compared to 2.1 mm I.D. chromatography, enabling scientists to reach lower limits of detection and see things they could not see before. Users can achieve up to 40x increase in sensitivity compared to 2.1 mm I.D. analytical columns with the 150 µm I.D. iKey Separation Device.
Highest throughput with the 300 µm I.D. iKey HT
The 300 µm I.D. iKey HT Separation Device is a high-throughput microflow separation device enabling short cycle times and improved sensitivity over conventional UPLC methods on a timescale that is practical for routine analysis.
Increasing flow rates with the iKey HT Separation Devices demonstrates the expected changes in retention time, as well as enhanced sensitivity. For high-throughput applications, iKey HT Separation Devices facilitate comparable analysis times and enhanced sensitivity compared with 2.1 mm UPLC experiments.
Eliminate operator variability with simplified microflow LC-MS
These systems are enabled by the iKey Separation Device, which eliminates the need for traditional fittings and error prone fluid connections, greatly simplifying microflow LC-MS, and making it easily accessible to the analytical laboratory. The “plug and play” design of the iKey Separation Device further eliminates operator variability, common in traditional microflow LC-MS analyses, regardless of skill level.
iKey Separation Device Technology
The iKey Separation Device is a high-pressure microfluidic device that provides sub-2 µm UPLC separations with the ionKey/MS System, enabling highly sensitive and efficient microflow LC-MS separations. The 150 µm I.D. iKey Separation Device provides the highest level of sensitivity whereas the 300 µm I.D. iKey HT Separation Device allows for short cycle times and higher throughput analysis, without compromising the sensitivity levels.
The iKey with PCA Technology has an additional post column addition (PCA) channel that allows for mixing the mobile phase with a desired solvent post chromatographic separations. Post-column addition of solvents can be used to enhance the electrospray process and increase sensitivity without affecting the chromatographic separation.
